The health and well-being impacts, on the other hand, are more intangible and may be harder to quantify. These can be measured using a health-related quality of life measure, such as disability weights.<\/p>\n
While the majority of gambling impacts are negative, some have positive long-term effects. For example, gambling can raise local tax revenues which can be used to fund public services. It can also have positive environmental impacts if the money is spent on ecologically sustainable activities. Gambling can also cause social benefits if the money is channeled into charitable causes, such as animal welfare and education. These types of impacts are less obvious and are not usually taken into account in gambling impact assessments.
