In order to be the first to act, the player to the left of the button must post a small blind. He or she will then be the first to act in subsequent rounds.

As a general rule, the best poker hand is a full house, but this is a very tricky feat to pull off. Some other possible combinations are a three-of-a-kind and a pair, or a three-of-a-kind, a pair and a full house. Also, a pair of Aces may be considered a low card, and a jack or higher is a king or queen.

Unlike other vying games, bluffing is a primary aspect of poker. A player may win by announcing that he or she has the best hand, or by making a bet that nobody else calls. However, it is not uncommon for all but one player to fold during a round of betting, making the pot a moot point. To improve their odds of winning, they may decide to bluff, or trade their hands for new ones.
